Calculating Your Cost of Doing Business

Your minimum hourly rate is your Cost of Doing Business (CODB) — all your annual expenses divided by your billable hours. Add up everything: equipment depreciation, insurance, software (Lightroom, Photoshop, gallery delivery), marketing, website, professional development, and a reasonable salary for yourself. Divide by your realistic annual billable hours (not total hours worked) — this is your floor; every rate you charge must exceed it to be profitable.
