Florida requires state licensing for cosmetologists, barbers, nail technicians, estheticians, and massage therapists — all through the DBPR. Requirements include completing an approved training program (1,200+ hours for cosmetology), passing written and practical exams, and background check clearance. The salon or spa itself also needs a separate establishment license from the DBPR distinct from the individual practitioner licenses.
